Bar of soap and a glass bottle

A Beautiful Day in Olde Mistick Village

The sun was warm on my skin, but the slight breeze from the river kept it from being too hot. We arrived in Olde Mistick Village in the afternoon and the younger three of our party split off to roam the shops. Having recently recovered from a dragon attack, Tim and I took a slower pace of walking through the village and enjoying the sights. We started at one end and followed the path past the duck pond to the land of sea creatures. As we returned to our starting point, we saw a few shops that piqued our interest.

Becca Rose was our first stop. A shop for the magically inclined, it is more spacious than I would have expected from the outside. A display of carved wooden boxes faces tables of crystals and gems. The other side of the shop has more crystals, tarot cards, and tarot related items. But what drew our interest was the large display of goat’s milk soap. The colorful soaps have scents ranging from Patchouli to Lavender to Thieves (a blend of spices). We purchased several bars before moving on.

Our next stop was Sticky Situations. The shop is spacious, with tasting tables in neat rows filling the space. A fun feature is the maple syrup tree. They use local honey and blend it with other flavors, like orange, chipotle, and cinnamon. Tim and I tried several honeys. I love the orange honey, but had no interest in the garlic, even though several other patrons seemed to like it.

After shopping and walking two full loops around the village, Tim and I met back up with the kids at Mango’s Wood-Fired Pizza. With the nice weather, we sat outside at the wooden picnic tables. We ordered Foxon sodas, a local soda company that offers some rare flavors like White Birch and Iron Brew.

Tim and I ordered a B.V.I, which had pepperoni, onion, and bacon on it. It wasn’t horrible, but I missed by Hawaii 5-0 that we usually get. Random and Grayson prefer white pizza, so they ordered a potato, bacon, and Brussels sprouts. We were all curious to see how Brussels sprouts would work on a pizza. I didn’t try it, but kids loved it. Even the picky eater who lives by a no vegetable rule ate the Brussels sprouts. The halfling doesn’t have a no vegetable rule, but as the pickiest, we got him a small pepperoni pizza. He only ate one slice, so we took the rest home. It made for an excellent lunch the next day.

After food, we called it a day. It was getting late into the evening, and we all needed sleep before the next adventure. For more adventures in Nancyland, please click here.
